PLAN ROOM

​​Plan Room is a workshop for for local authority plan-making teams working through a single problem that has become difficult. Sometimes the evidence will not resolve on its own, sometimes the decision is clear but its consequences are not, and sometimes the team simply cannot agree.

How it works​

When you book, we will send you a short form to complete. It asks what the problem is, who will be in the room, what a useful outcome would look like, and what material we should read.

We then hold a thirty minute scoping meeting at least two weeks before the session, to talk the form through and agree how the session should run. We will ask for your material within a few days of that meeting, so that we have time to read the evidence, the drafting and the programme properly. The two week gap matters both ways. It gives us time to prepare, and it gives you time to settle internally on what you are actually asking so you get the most out of the session.

The session itself runs for ninety minutes on Zoom (or Teams if preferred) . It is a facilitated discussion rather than a briefing although we use various presentation materials and our wider expertise. While there is no limit on the number of attendees, we recommend no more than ten people to enable active participation.

Afterwards we write it up. The note sets out what was covered, where the discussion got to, what we would do next, and what we would want to see before you commit to a course of action. Most teams use it as the basis for a decision or to brief senior management.

Booking and payment

A session costs £1,500 plus VAT, which covers the form, the scoping meeting, the session and the written note. The fee is the same whatever the size of the team you wish to attend the session.

You can either book online and pay at the same time, or get in touch through the contact page if you would rather use a different payment method, talk it through first, or if you need dates that are not listed. Where you have not booked and paid online, we will need a purchase order number before we start.
